Like the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montréal Canadiens, Audi and BMW have been rivals for what seems like forever. It is difficult for some consumers who are looking for a luxury vehicle to differentiate BMW models and Audi vehicles, as they all seemed quite similar on paper. But like any old rivalry, it is what you don’t see that often explains the long-standing showdown.

We would be lying if we said that Audi vehicles were significantly or noticeably better than BMW vehicles and as you will have noticed, we are talking about both brands as a whole here as opposed to comparing specific models. That’s because both Audi and BMW have very distinct personalities and DNA that we find in all of their vehicles. That means that whether you are comparing an Audi A4 to a BMW 3 Series or an Audi R8 to a BMW M8 or a BMW X3 to an Audi Q5, it is what you feel behind the wheel that will ultimately dictate which model you choose. On the surface, you cannot go wrong with either model. But when you get inside and get out on the road, you will find that there are significant differences in how Audi and BMW vehicles behave. Let’s take a look at some of them

Comfort and refinement

Audi vehicles are known to offer the best balance of performance and luxury among the top three German automakers. Mercedes focuses a bit more on comfort, BMW focuses a bit more on performance, and Audi has historically been right in the middle with its vehicles. That is still true today and what we can tell you about how Audi vehicle’s drive compared to BMW vehicles is that Audi models tend to be a bit more refined and a bit more comfortable. It is a subtle difference, but it is noticeable.

Performance and efficiency

Again, the differences between both models when it comes performance and efficiency is subtle but it is there. When you look at Audi’s most powerful and sportiest models like the Audi S4, the Audi RS 5, the Audi RS 6 Avant, or the Audi RS 7, what you find is that they are much more practical and enjoyable on a daily basis despite offering remarkable performance than, say, a BMW M model. This is just fact, you will have a lot more fun driving an Audi RS 7 to work than a BMW M5. There’s just more comfort there. And while both Audi and BMW offer a range of plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles, Audi actually offers more PHEV models and more fully electric models as well.

Both Audi and BMW offer great performance, great reliability, great luxury, and great refinement combined with performance. The major difference between the two brands is that Audi blends everything together a little more smoothly. Give us a call today to learn more.
